Grand Prix Espoo competition features an impressive lineup of medalists from World Championships. In ice dance, we have European bronze medalists Juulia Turkkila and Matthias Versluis, as well as Yuka Orihara and Juho Pirinen. Finnish ice dance pairs will face tough competition from the reigning world champions Madison Chock and Evan Bates from the United States.
For the first time in history, Finland is represented in pair skating as Milania Väänänen and Filippo Clerici make their GP debut. In pair skating, the expectations for success are high for the world champions Sara Conti and Niccolo Macii from Italy.
In men’s figure skating, we will witness tremendous skill as Korean skater Junhwan Cha, who placed second in the 2023 World Championships, arrives in Finland once again. Finland is also represented by last season junior skater Makar Suntsev at Grand Prix Espoo.
In the womens’ competition, all eyes will be on the reigning world champion, Japanese figure skater Kaori Sakamoto. The Finnish female representatives for GP Espoo will be decided after the program audition event in mid-August. The competitors for Finlandia Trophy Espoo will be confirmed in early September.
Grand Prix Espoo will be held on November 17-19, 2023, at Espoo Metro Areena. GP Espoo is part of the annual seven-event ISU Grand Prix series. This competition is the third time it is being organized in Finland. The competition culminates in the gala exhibition on Sunday.
